MSA Awards & Professional Recognition

The Museum Store Association strongly believes in recognizing outstanding achievement and dedication in the field of cultural commerce. That is why the Association established an awards program that acknowledges the essential role that cultural commerce professionals play in the success of their institutions. Following is a description of the four MSA Awards.

MSA Merit Award

Recipients shall have contributed to the improvement of MSA. The board uses all of the following criteria to select recipients:
  • Current MSA member or affiliate for five years or more
  • Rendered volunteer service at the annual MSA Conference
  • Served on a committee or task force
  • Involved at the chapter level
How to Nominate
Nominations may be submitted by the board, MSA members or MSA office staff and should include a written description of the nominee’s MSA accomplishments and the impact of their activities on the Association. Awards must be submitted to the MSA office by Jan. 1. Nominations will be reviewed by the board at their February meeting and award presentations take place at the annual Membership Meeting. The number of awards may vary annually.

The MSA Service Award

This award is given as special recognition for outstanding service or contribution to the Association by a member or a non-member. Examples include a donation of pro bono time, underwriting a project or activity, or contributing behind the scenes in some way.

How to Nominate
Nominations by MSA members or MSA staff are accepted until Jan. 1 and must include a written description indicating the individual’s contribution to MSA. Nominations will be reviewed by the board at their February meeting and award presentations take place at the annual Membership Meeting.

Member Recognition

Members and affiliates retiring, or long-term members (5+ years) leaving MSA, who have made contributions to the Association shall be recognized in Museum Store magazine or other MSA communications wherever possible.

The M Award for Excellence

This is the highest Award available. The recipient shall have shown dedication and loyalty to the Association through their creativity, effectiveness, and spirit of volunteerism and support. The award is given periodically when warranted by the board of directors using all of the following criteria:
  • Current MSA member of 10 years or more
  • Served at least one year on the MSA board of directors
  • Served as a chapter officer
  • Served on a board or staff level committee or task force
  • Had a long-term impact on MSA
How to Nominate
MSA members wishing to nominate another MSA member should provide a written description of the individual’s accomplishments to the MSA office by Jan. 1. Nominations are reviewed by the board of directors at their February meeting and award presentations take place at the annual Membership Meeting.
