South Atlantic Chapter Meeting Minutes
Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 — Baton Rouge, LA
Charles Ferryman of the National Ornamental Metal Museum called the meeting to order at 9 a.m.
PRESENT
Eight members were in attendance: Kelly Catlett, Charles Ferryman, Selena Grant, Nancy Hagerman, Abigail Hebert, Doug Purifoy, Mike Smail and Paula Taylor. Also in attendance were Nicole Benson and Monica Dugas of the USS Kidd Veterans’ Memorial, Baton Rouge, LA; Loretta Potapenko of Museum Store Solutions, Mobile, AL; and Jan Sumrall of the Old State Capitol, Baton Rouge, LA.
OLD BUSINESS
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
NEW BUSINESS
Charles Ferryman asked for suggestions or nominations for a new secretary to serve the chapter. Paula Taylor said that she would contact Janie McGregor of the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center in Clarksville, TN, to see if she would serve.
Kelly Catlett brought up the suggestion that our next chapter meeting be held in July, in conjunction with the Atlanta Gift Market. This was unanimously adopted as the best option.
Kelly also discussed initiating a mentoring program within our region to foster new members. Everyone agreed that we should pursue this.
Kelly also introduced the idea of a survey of chapter members that would help us to have a better understanding of what members need most from MSA and the direction our chapter should take to be stronger.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Paula Taylor passed out and discussed announcements from the national MSA office, including details about the upcoming annual Conference in Austin, cultivating new members and MSA's Knowledge Standards.
ADJOURNED
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
