OLD BUSINESS
Vice President Heidi Stelmach, from Earthwords Nature Shop at the Cleveland Metro Parks, read the MSA Antitrust policy which can be found in detail on the MSA Web site. Heidi read the minutes of the last meeting from the Gerald R. Ford Museum. There being no corrections or additions, the minutes were approved.
NEW BUSINESS
Janice thanked Robert Tate for his hard work as the past Secretary, Vice President and President of the Midwest Chapter.
The chapter was given two goals for this year from Janice: She encouraged chapter involvement and she inspired us to help make the Midwest Chapter one of the best MSA chapters. She wants to grow the Midwest chapter with increased public relations and increased membership. She has asked John Lemke, Wisconsin Historical Museum, to help her with this task. John asked two questions to get this job started: 1) what is the best reason to attend a chapter meeting? (i.e., networking, skill building, less expensive than national meetings, new ideas, etc.), and 2) what is one benefit of attending a chapter meeting? (i.e., close knit relationships formed, etc.).
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Robert encouraged the chapter to donate to the Sam Greenberg Scholarship Fund. Heidi discussed the Midwest budget and that she is looking into a new bank that would not charge us a service fee. You are encouraged to e-mail her with new bank suggestions.
Janice asked each chapter member to introduce themselves, state what institution they were from and give a short "lemon to lemonade" story they have lived through this year.
Mary Hele from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts was introduced as a member of the Knowledge Standards Task Force. Mary spoke about the exciting news of the official Knowledge Standards rollout in the next 18 months focusing on supporting the strategic plan and the goals of MSA. MSA wants to be known as a trusted source of cultural commerce information with the eight core Knowledge Standards.
Secretary Elaine Molin, Conner Prairie Museum, congratulated this year's Sam Greenberg Scholarship winners from our chapter: Serenity Shanklin, Minnesota Historical Society, and Renee Sheakoski, Butler Institute of American Art. She also suggested thinking about doing a Midwest fundraising idea for our chapter similar to the Sam Greenberg Scholarship Fund.
Janice set the tentative fall 2008 Midwest Chapter meeting in Chicago during the July Gift Show. She is checking with alternative sites for a back-up place and time of year.
Terry Tarnow, Dennos Museum Center – Northwestern Michigan College, suggested Traverse City, MI, in 2010. Beth Stein suggested Wabash, IN, for 2009.
ADJOURNED
The meetings was adjourned at 2:35 p.m., proposed by Tony Nickoloff.
