Pat spoke about forming a nominating committee for the next chapter Secretary. Alice McAuliffe and Carol Cribbs volunteered for the committee. Two potential candidates mentioned were Erin Kelley and Stephanie Fridge. Stephanie was not in attendance but was nominated by Lauren Chapin Salazar. The committee will be in contact with these two potential nominees to see if they accept.

Barbara Lenhardt brought up picking the location of the September 2009 chapter meeting. Richmond, VA, and Monticello in Charlottesville, VA, were mentioned, but no decision was made.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pat introduced Lauren Chapin Salazar who spoke as the meeting’s representative from MSA. Lauren talked about how the main focus for 2008 / 2009 will be the Knowledge Standards, introduced at the Tampa MSA Conference. Among other things these standards are geared to make museum shops "a part of the museum and not just a retail entity." Educational programming at the Phoenix Conference, May 2 – 5, 2009, will be based on these Knowledge Standards. Lauren mentioned that one-third of exhibitors at the Phoenix Expo will be new. In addition, The Cultural Traveler guidebook was mentioned as a good way to promote our institutions, and the ShopTalk e-mail discussion forum was promoted as a way to learn and ask questions of our peers in the MSA community.

As new members to MSA, Carole Alfe, Neil Poirier and Abby Krouse were encouraged to apply for the Sam Greenberg Scholarship for the MSA Conference in Phoenix, AZ.

An agenda change for today’s meeting was announced. The school group discussion was changed to strategic planning.
