Mid-Atlantic Chapter Meeting Minutes

Saturday, May 2, 2009 — Phoenix, AZ

Chapter President Barbara Lenhardt of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m. She welcomed everyone and thanked Pat Toth for serving as President. Barbara introduced chapter officers, Morgan T. Muth, Vice President, and Stuart Gerstein, Secretary. All members were asked to introduce themselves and their institution.

PRESENT

Twenty-seven members were in attendance: Marie Fury, Stuart Gerstein, Michael Higdon, Linda Jacobson, Deana Karras, Mary Beth King, Anne Lee, Barbara Lenhardt, Alice McAuliffe, Constance McCulloch, Margaret McLean, Jenifer Micikas, Beth Muth, Morgan T. Muth, Marie Napoli, Kelly Pecora, Elizabeth Poole, Jane Riley, Lorelei Rowars, Keith Ryan, Paul Stearns, Ruth Ann Steenburgh, Jim Stewart, Patrica Toth, Diana Wailes, Susan West and Mark Wiggins. Also in attendance were Fred Kreitchet and Sabine Minshall of Giftworks.

OLD BUSINESS

Chapter minutes from the Sept. 14, 2008, meeting at Fallingwater were read and approved. Barbara thanked Betsy Poole and her staff at Fallingwater for hosting the chapter meeting and thanked Alice McAuliffe and Carole Cribbs of the Nominating Committee.

NEW BUSINESS

There was a call for a new Nominating Committee and Diana Wailes, U.S. Capitol Historical Society, and Jane Riley, Manassas Museum System, volunteered.

Topics for the upcoming fall chapter meeting program were discussed:
  • Professional development, mentor program, training employees, problem employees and consumer behavior.
  • Creative product development, improving sales, dealing with stress in the workplace, budgeting and sales incentives.
  • Pilferage and shoplifting, working with interns, mentoring and recruiting volunteers.
Members were encouraged to bring guests (non-members) to the chapter meetings. Guests are allowed to attend one time.

Jane Riley was in Phoenix thanks to the Mid-Atlantic Chapter Scholarship.

Mid-Atlantic participation was down in the Sam Greenberg Scholarship Fund this year. All members were encouraged to participate more.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The fall meeting will be held Saturday, Sept. 12 – Monday, Sept. 14, 2009. The estimated fee will be $60; MSA no longer contributes $500. Average attendance is usually 40 – 50 people.

An agenda change for today’s meeting was announced. The school group discussion was changed to strategic planning.

ADJOURNED

The meeting was adjourned at 3:55 p.m.
