MSA Memorial Scholarship Fund

The MSA Memorial Scholarship Fund has enabled more than 100 museum store professionals to attend the MSA Retail Conference & Expo to learn more about their trade and refine their skills, thereby strengthening the industry.

Originally, the scholarship was established and named in honor of Samuel Julius Greenberg, who served as director of museum shops for the Smithsonian Institution from 1982-1989. Sam believed that the MSA Retail Conference & Expo was the greatest learning opportunity for museum store managers. In memory of this exceptional man, MSA established the scholarship fund to help eligible museum store personnel attend its Conference & Expo.

In order to recognize the contributions of those MSA members we have lost over the years, the scholarship was renamed the MSA Memorial Scholarship in 2013. Contributions made now allow the donor to make an “in memory of” donation. Scholarships are awarded annually to Museum Members who demonstrate financial need and have not previously attended a Conference & Expo.

Make a Donation

The MSA Retail Conference & Expo is an opportunity to learn, shop and thrive in an atmosphere that is supportive, professional and fun.

Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, many MSA members have never had the opportunity to attend an MSA Conference.

Donations from museum store managers and industry vendors (including many Expo exhibitors) are the primary source of funding for these important scholarships. By supporting the MSA Memorial Scholarship Fund, you are doing your part to keep the museum retail industry strong and growing. Scholarship recipients gain so much from their awards.

Contributions to the MSA Memorial Scholarship Fund are accepted and appreciated year-round.
